I've always seen that many European band's have their own take on metal with their grandiose productions, full-sounding orchestral movements backing their heavy guitar riffs and thunderous drums, and not many in the modern era do it better than Lacuna Coil. "Dark Adrenaline" definitely lives up to it's name.
The call-and-responce and harmonization between Andre Ferro and Cristina Scabbia is a highlight on any Lacuna Coil album, and both done relatively cleanly, rather than Screamo, when it works, is a true testament to their musicianship. "Upsidedown" features this so well, giving the song such a night & day vibe that gels perfectly.
"Dark Adrenaline" is perfect title, many of songs playing on the theme using dark, dissonant tones and melodies, heavy riffs and blazing solos throughout. A welcome surprise as well is the twist on R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion", turned on it's ear with their interpretation but creatively done.
Honestly, I think the band have grown since "Karmacode", and you can hear a certain maturity and a less-is-more attitude this time around, focusing more on the musicality rather than spectacle.
