DEAR SUPERSTAR HIT THE ROAD AGAIN IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM "HEARTLESS" -
INTERVIEW WITH LEAD SINGER MICKY SATIAR
Hailing from Manchester, UK ("If you're not a Manc, you're a wank!") Dear Superstar's members have been honing their skills for years in various outfits before collabrating together as a tight unit.  In the few years that Dear Superstar have been together, their sound, a blend of melody and metal not unlike their peers Bullet For My Valentine (who appears on one of their songs from their new album), and DIY touring and persistance have made them one of the most in-demand bands around the UK and Europe, selling out clubs where some of today's mainstream artists can only fill half.
I had the good fortune of receiving an email from lead singer Micky Satiar following my interview with Bullet For My Valentine. Micky and I decided to do an interview; unfortunately due to scheduling and a major time difference (I'm in California) to follow are answers to my questions via email.  In many ways, this may be better; Micky's writing and enthuesiasm probably could not be matched with my own interpretation.
RockMonthly: How is the touring going and where are you guys now?

Micky Satiar:
We’re touring the UK real hard right now, trying not to leave any stone unturned. We’ve concentrated hard on Scandinavia in the past and are happy with how things are out there – kind of like our second home. But we still have a lot of work to do on the UK, it can still be unpredictable.

We’ve got this new album up our sleeve now and a bigger, badder and crazier live show.. WATCH OUT!

RM: Did the recording process differ from the last album?

MS:
Our debut was released after 18 months on the road and we pretty much wrote the whole album in our tour bus. “Confessions of a Twisted Mind” was the result, a testament to hard work and a graphic confession to what actually goes on when a band like us is on tour. When we recorded it, we were flat broke and just wanted to get something out there to back up our reputation. We hit a local studio and bashed it out for less than £2000.00, which isn’t exactly as huge amount to spend on an LP. Confessions hit the shelves in September 2006 and we toured the living hell out of it!!!

This time round, we locked ourselves away at Astech Studios in Manchester, for the best part of 6 months (with the odd show thrown in) to write a new album. We had a whole fuckin boat-load of ideas and we drilled away at them until we had something so fucking awesome, we couldn’t wait to get it cut.

We had come across Romesh Dodongada from Longwave Studios, as he produced Funeral for a Friend, Bullet for my Valentine, Kids in Glass Houses, Manic Street Preachers and loads of other kick-ass bands… Luckily he digged what we did and was happy to produce the album.

Working with Romesh was kick-ass and after 4 weeks of recording everyday… We have an album that we love and can be damn proud of.

RM: In regard to writing, do you write while on the road, all together, do you have any specific time that you set aside for writing, etc?

MS:
It depends, back in the “Confessions” days, we recorded on the road, because we couldn’t afford not to be touring. With “Heartless” we had the chance to really take our time and every member of Dear Superstar put in as much effort as the next. All new tracks will be written on the road again, because after recording “Heartless” we plan on living on the road!

RM:  What is the overall feel of the new album?

MS:
The grit, blood and sweat of the 1980’s, but totally set in the now.
Think of Avenged Sevenfold and Motley Crue having a drinking contest then having a fight with My Chemical Romance on the way home… That’s DEAR SUPERSTAR baby!

RM:  Are there any particular songs you are proud of?

MS:
Every single track! Live.Love.Lie is my particular favourite. Jay from Bullet for my Valentine did the screaming for us on the track, which just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

RM:  How was working with Bullet For My Valentine?

MS:
Working with bullet was amazing… They were rehearsing in the same studio as us in Cardiff and got chatting to them as you do. Gotta say they are all the most genuine and sincere guys we’ve met..  Micky asked Jay if he would be up for doing some guest screaming as his vocals were shot and Jay accepted. The track sounds so fucking amazing, you can take a listen at www.myspace.com/dearsuperstar .  We can’t thank the guys from Bullet enough, gonna be fun seeing them again this Summer!

RM: Where do you get the inspiration for your songs?

MS:
Life on the road… When you are away from loved ones, it takes its toll on your soul… Rocking all day and parting all night defines us as people, so yeh, that’s what we generally write about. Well that and hot chicks and fast cars! ha

RM: You've been around for 8 years, do you think not signing to a major label has hurt you or helped you?

MS:
Dear Superstar has only been around since 2004, so we’re pretty young in that respect. We’ve all been in bands since we were old enough to wield a guitar, but all previous bands were training camps for DEAR SUPERSTAR. Our debut album would never have scored us a major deal, it was a stepping stone to “Heatrtless”… Major Deal? Watch this space.

RM: Any plans on touring the United States?

MS:
If someone wants to put the tour together, we will jump on the next plane. We want to tour the US asap!

RM: Anything you would like to add?

MS:
Welcome to your new favourite rock stars baby!
